Start with the Spring 2027 positions page
The official Pathways opportunities page is the simplest starting point. It brings together the current application window, fields of study and hiring centers. A general search for “NASA internship deadline” can lead to a different program’s schedule.

Do not assume an opening date means every link is already visible. In our September 21 morning check, the positions page still showed placeholders saying application links would be posted that day. That observation is a dated snapshot; open the live source for the current links.

Pathways and OSTEM have different application routes
NASA’s internship overview distinguishes OSTEM internships from Pathways. Pathways is a multi-semester employment program with potential consideration for a NASA career after graduation. OSTEM offers a different internship route through NASA STEM Gateway.
The Spring 2027 OSTEM application deadline shown on the overview is September 14, 2026. That date is not the September 25 closing date announced for Pathways. Likewise, an OSTEM summer deadline does not establish when a Pathways vacancy will open.
Before copying a date into your calendar, record three things together: program, internship term and application year. “Spring 2027” describes when the work begins, while this Pathways application window falls in September 2026. That small distinction prevents a common planning error.
JPL also maintains its own internship application information. Read the rules for the actual opportunity instead of transferring a NASA-wide date to every JPL program.
Match the vacancy to your major and hiring centers
NASA’s current list is more useful than a broad list of subjects it has hired in the past. For this window, start with the role families on the positions page: engineering, engineering technology, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, and physical sciences.
- Find your qualifying major. Read the major list under the exact position, not only its heading.
- Check which centers hire that position. NASA says a center will not review the application if the applicant selects a location that is not listed for that role.
- Choose up to two suitable centers. Compare the actual work and location with your availability.
- Open the corresponding USAJOBS announcement. Confirm eligibility, required documents and closing instructions there before applying.
For example, the Computer Engineering entry includes Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computational Science and Engineering, and Mathematics among its listed majors. A student should therefore inspect the eligibility list rather than reject a role solely because its title differs from their degree title. This example does not determine any individual applicant’s eligibility.
If your major qualifies for more than one position, NASA says you may apply to each. Keep a separate record for each announcement so documents and center choices do not get mixed up.
Check eligibility and application rules before the deadline
The Pathways program page lists baseline requirements including U.S. citizenship, an age of at least 16, qualifying half-time enrollment, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 out of 4.0, and the ability to complete at least 480 work hours before completing the degree or certificate. The full page and vacancy contain additional conditions.
NASA currently says USAJOBS resumes must be two pages or fewer. It also prohibits using AI tools to create or adapt narrative application and assessment responses. Follow those instructions yourself; a deadline guide is not a substitute for the application rules.
Prior experience is not required according to the general Pathways page. That does not remove the need to show the qualities and qualifications the vacancy asks for. NASA Video’s September 9, 2021 explanation gives background on the kind of student the program seeks; NASA still embeds it on its current program page.
The video is evergreen context, not a Spring 2027 announcement. Use the current written requirements if dates, assessment details or application instructions differ from this older presentation. Full-time employment after graduation is a possibility NASA considers, not a guaranteed outcome.
Use USAJOBS alerts and a personal deadline reminder
USAJOBS job alerts can email new vacancies matching your search daily, weekly or monthly. Sign in, search with the relevant agency and role filters, then turn on a job alert. Daily delivery is the most useful of those options for a short application window; it is not an instant opening notification.
Once you find an announcement, save its URL and closing instructions alongside your own earlier preparation deadline. Check that every required document is present and that the submission actually completes. An alert, saved job or started form is not a submitted application.

Watch a specific application-link update if needed
If native alerts cover your needs, use them. For a narrower public-page update, PageDog can check one selected role block on your Mac.
